Great Southern Grammar school held a special assembly today for 500 students to welcome the group from Fukushima. The visitors from Japan were piped into the assembly hall behind a band and Australian students gave welcome remarks. Kaname Hirose, representing Iitate Village, gave a presentation about their village and current situation, and Melanie Brock, representing MLA, Mate Rock, and Australia-Japan Foundation, gave a presentation on the disasters last year and the reasons for this trip.
The welcome from Great Southern Grammar - students and teachers - and from the host families in Albany could not have been warmer. Thank you!
Australian charitable venture Mate Rock is sponsoring a visit to Western Australia for students from Iitate Village, Fukushima Prefecture, who were affected by Japan’s March 2011 disasters. The trip is also backed by Meat and Livestock Australia, and Australia-Japan Foundation. The students will partner with Great Southern Grammar school in Albany. The goal? To provide a positive and inspiring experience and further strengthen Japan-Australia ties.
